چکیده

A convergence result is proved for the equilibrium configurations of a three-dimensional thin elastic beam, as the diameter h of the cross-section goes to zero. More precisely, we show that stationary points of the nonlinear elastic functional E , whose energies (per unit cross-section) are bounded by Ch , converge to stationary points of the Γ-limit of E/h . This corresponds to a nonlinear one-dimensional model for inextensible rods, describing bending and torsion effects. The proof is based on the rigidity estimate for low-energy deformations by Friesecke, James, and Müller [4] and on a compensated compactness argument in a singular geometry. In addition, possible concentration effects of the strain are controlled by a careful truncation argument.

Thin-walled beams: a derivation of Vlassov theory via Γ-convergence

This paper deals with the asymptotic analysis of the three-dimensional problem for a linearly elastic cantilever having an open crosssection which is the union of rectangles with sides of order ε and ε2, as ε goes to zero. Under suitable assumptions on the given loads and for homogeneous and isotropic material, we show that the threedimensional problem Γ-converges to the classical one-dimension...

Semi-analytical Approach for Free Vibration Analysis of Variable Cross-Section Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation and under Axial Force

in this paper, free vibration of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with variable cross-section resting on elastic foundation and under axial tensile force is considered. Beam’s constant height and exponentially varying width yields variable cross-section. The problem is handled for three different boundary conditions: clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported and clamp-free beams. First, the equ...

Thin-walled beams: the case of the rectangular cross-section

In this paper we present an asymptotic analysis of the three-dimensional problem for a thin linearly elastic cantilever Ωε = ωε × (0, l) with rectangular cross-section ωε of sides ε and ε 2, as ε goes to zero. Under suitable assumptions on the given loads, we show that the threedimensional problem converges in a variational sense to the classical one-dimensional model for extension, flexure and...

A New Finite Element Formulation for Buckling and Free Vibration Analysis of Timoshenko Beams on Variable Elastic Foundation

In this study, the buckling and free vibration of Timoshenko beams resting on variable elastic foundation analyzed by means of a new finite element formulation. The Winkler model has been applied for elastic foundation. A two-node element with four degrees of freedom is suggested for finite element formulation. Displacement and rotational fields are approximated by cubic and quadratic polynomia...

Effective dimensional reduction algorithm for eigenvalue problems for thin elastic structures: a paradigm in three dimensions.

We present a methodology for the efficient numerical solution of eigenvalue problems of full three-dimensional elasticity for thin elastic structures, such as shells, plates and rods of arbitrary geometry, discretized by the finite element method. Such problems are solved by iterative methods, which, however, are known to suffer from slow convergence or even convergence failure, when the thickn...
